Week 11

Outline
Scene 1:
Will and Jodie meet each other for the first time with some mutual friends. Will is friends with Matt who is Veronica’s boyfriend. Roni is Jodie friend from dance school. Jodie is nervous about dating anyone because dancing means so much to her. He also isn’t sure how her mother will react when she finds out.
Jodie’s mom wants Jodie to just focus on her dancing so she can become a star. Jodie’s mother is living vicariously through Jodie because she wanted to be a dancer and was never able to. Jodie does what her mother wants her to do because she doesn’t want anything more than what her mother wants. Jodie’s mother has a lot of say in Jodie’s life although Jodie is nineteen and has been living at the ballet school for many years. As Jodie hasn’t had a lot of friends outside the dancing school and no other parental figure she leans to her mother for most everything. That also means she listens to what hr mom has to say.
Jodie has developed an eating disorder because body image is so prominent in the dancing world. After watching a fellow dancer be sent home for not having the “right body type”, Jodie knows she must keep on top of her weight at all times. She also knows that at any time someone could come in and be a better dancer than her so she must always strive for perfection when she dances.
That is the reason Jodie doesn’t date because she only has so many years as a dancer and she wants to make the best of them. Meeting Will makes her nervous because she doesn’t know how he will respond to her dancing ethic and she doesn’t want anyone to find out about the eating disorder.
Will is interested in Jodie because he wants to lose himself in her to forget about his own problems.
Quickly Will and Jodie hit it off. Jodie eventually tries to push Will away because she is becoming too close to him and that puts her dancing at risk or so her mother says. Her mother tells Jodie to lose the boyfriend because he is ruining her chances for dancing professionally. Jodie isn’t willing to do that so she pushes herself harder so she can have it all. Love and keeping her mother happy.

Well, this isn't fish nor fowl--it isn't a script and it isn't an outline. It is a fine piece of background, lots of character motivation.

It isn't script or outline because there's nothing much visual in it; it doesn't revolve around scenes and action.

At this point...let it go. Concentrate on writing script for act 1.
