week 12

INT. BIG AL'S BOWLING ALLEY. EVENING.
Two young male adults and two young female adults enter the bowling alley from a side door. They walk to the register and stop. An employee stands in front of them.
MATT
Hey man. Can you hook us up with a lane?
ALLEY EMPLOYEE
Sure, how many are bowling?
Matt turns to the others.
MATT
Ummm.. four. You bowling, right, Jodie?
JODIE
Sure.
Matt turns back to the employee and hands him some money. The employee hits a couple of buttons on the register and bends down to find some shoes for them.
ALLEY EMPLOYEE
What size shoes you all want?
JODIE
Eight.
MATT
Twelve and a half.
WILL
Same.
RONI
Eight.
The employee hands places the shoes on the counter as they say the sizes and the young people take their seperate shoes. They walk to their lane and sit in the available chairs to put their shoes on.
MATT
(Jokingly)
So Jodie, what do you think of Will so far?
RONI
(warning)
Matt!!
JODIE
(glancing at Will, she turns away quickly.)
Well, I don't really know him yet but he is okay so far.
WILL
(sarcastic)
Thanks.
A short time later...
Jodie stands before the lane clutching a ball to her chest. She looks nervous.
JODIE
Like this?
She looks to the others who are all reclining in their chairs.
WILL
Yeah, just roll it on down there.
MATT
You've never done this before?
JODIE
No.
She bends and releases the ball down the lane. It rools and rolls before making a resounding clanking sound as it hits the pins.
Jodie jumps in the air. The others give a loud yell. She leaps back to her seat.
Later...

Week 11

Outline
Scene 1:
Will and Jodie meet each other for the first time with some mutual friends. Will is friends with Matt who is Veronica’s boyfriend. Roni is Jodie friend from dance school. Jodie is nervous about dating anyone because dancing means so much to her. He also isn’t sure how her mother will react when she finds out.
Jodie’s mom wants Jodie to just focus on her dancing so she can become a star. Jodie’s mother is living vicariously through Jodie because she wanted to be a dancer and was never able to. Jodie does what her mother wants her to do because she doesn’t want anything more than what her mother wants. Jodie’s mother has a lot of say in Jodie’s life although Jodie is nineteen and has been living at the ballet school for many years. As Jodie hasn’t had a lot of friends outside the dancing school and no other parental figure she leans to her mother for most everything. That also means she listens to what hr mom has to say.
Jodie has developed an eating disorder because body image is so prominent in the dancing world. After watching a fellow dancer be sent home for not having the “right body type”, Jodie knows she must keep on top of her weight at all times. She also knows that at any time someone could come in and be a better dancer than her so she must always strive for perfection when she dances.
That is the reason Jodie doesn’t date because she only has so many years as a dancer and she wants to make the best of them. Meeting Will makes her nervous because she doesn’t know how he will respond to her dancing ethic and she doesn’t want anyone to find out about the eating disorder.
Will is interested in Jodie because he wants to lose himself in her to forget about his own problems.
Quickly Will and Jodie hit it off. Jodie eventually tries to push Will away because she is becoming too close to him and that puts her dancing at risk or so her mother says. Her mother tells Jodie to lose the boyfriend because he is ruining her chances for dancing professionally. Jodie isn’t willing to do that so she pushes herself harder so she can have it all. Love and keeping her mother happy.

week 8

Green and Purple Grapes of the Gods
EXT. MAIN ST, WATERVILLE. LATE MORNING.
Strolling along the Concourse streets, Rocky examines the wares at the street bake sale held by the local religious factions. Here he is soothed and he can chat the church ladies up. Scones and dry plums sit at the table.
ROCKY
Good morning to you. How are you?
FIRST CHURCH LADY
Fine.
(She doesn't smile.)
Rocky moves on. He knows where
He won't find any company. Her
Food is a lot like her personality.
ROCKY
Nice looking crust.
SECOND CHURCH LADY
Why thank you. Would you like a pie?
ROCKY
I can't. It would be a waste as it's only me at home to eat it.
SECOND CHURCH LADY
What a shame.
Rocky moves along, knowing she doesn't want to help him either. Rocky spies some crazily decorated cookies and cupcakes. Standing next to them is a woman with long loose hair and crazed eyes. Worth a second look, he thinks.
ROCKY
Very slick.
CRAZY CHURCH LADY
Bless him. What can I sell you this morning?
ROCKY
Just tire-kickin', I'm afraid.
CRAZY CHURCH LADY
Oh.
(Her eyes unfocus and the crazy look reappears.)
Rocky liked that look better than the focused one.
ROCKY
What have you got to tempt me?
Behind ROCKY,
LILITH
The serpent tempted me and I ate.
Rocky turns and sees a woman with a tiny dancer’s body, helmet of dark hair and green eyes holding a pitcher of what appears to be grape juice.
ROCKY
The serpent beguiled me and I did eat. Maybe it’s different for U-U’s. But you can’t beat the KJV for poetry.
LILITH
'Beguiled’ is a nice touch, I admit. What can I beguile you with?
(She smiles with the air of an accomplished flirt.)
ROCKY
Anything at all. What have you got?
(Smiles back.)
LILITH
How about the Green and Purple Grapes of the Gods? Right out of the cooler in my car.
(She clinks ice together in the pitcher.)
ROCKY
Green and purple grapes of God?
LILITH
That’s what it’s called, but I’m not giving recipes or information away to free-riders.
ROCKY
Tire-kickers.
LILITH
Exactly. A dollar to satisfy your curiosity and your thirst.
(Both smile, insolent and bold.)

ROCKY
An offer like that, I’d be a fool not to.
Rocky pays her some money, take a sip, chokes and coughs a little.
ROCKY
You made this yesterday?
(Eyes watering.)
LILITH
Does that matter?
(Defensive)

ROCKY
It's starting to ferment.
LILITH
It’s been refrigerated.
(Sounding annoyed and skeptical)
ROCKY
Depends on the yeasts on the grapes. Some of them can kick in at very low temperatures.
LILITH
You sound very expert. Homebrewer, winemaker?
(Dismissive of his pastimes.)
ROCKY
In my dark past. Never again, pray god.
Rocky hands her the cup and she drinks from it.
LILITH
Oh shit. Let me get you a refund.
(Apologetic)
ROCKY
Why don’t you use that buck towards a cup of coffee for me when you get off here?
She smiles coyly.
LILITH
Sorry, this money is for fundraising. It just wouldn't be right.
ROCKY
I suppose it’ll have to be my treat then. Coffee Shack? When are you done?
She checks out his shoes and jeans without her smile. Appraising the merchandise.
LILITH
I don't think so.
Rocky isn't bothered by the brush-off. He had told murderers and rapists that if they even looked him up after they were released he would kill them.
ROCKY
I thought we could trade recipes. You’d tell me the secrets of Green and Purple Grapes of the Gods, and I’d tell you how to make pruno.
LILITH
Pruno?
ROCKY
Pruno. Juice, jump, jack, brew, chalk, buck, jailhouse hooch. From back in the day. ‘I fought the law and the law won.’
She stands and pulls the hem of her shift down before sitting again.
LILITH
Have you had much luck with that?
ROCKY
As a pick-up line? Some. Wait til you see my homemade tattoos.
She laughs. Offers him her hand.
LILITH
I'm Lilith.
ROCKY
Rocky.
LILITH
My ex-con is named Rocky?
Rocky hears the possessive pronoun for sure.
LILITH
Eleven it is then and please be a gentleman.
Rocky's eyes suddenly fill with tears for a reason he can't describe so he nods and walks away quickly.
INT. LILITHS APARTMENT. ONE WEEK LATER. DINNER TIME. - EVENING
Her refrigerator appalled him. Inside was a nearly-empty bottle of Gallo pinot gris, another of Poland Spring still water, a shriveled beefsteak tomato, the remains of the lemons she’d stripped the zest from for the Green and Purple Grapes of the Gods, and a two-foot square marble pastry board.
ROCKY
Are you anorexic?
He already knew her answer, refusal, denial and she wouldn't stoop that low to answer a question like that.
Rocky hauls out the pastry board.
ROCKY
Can I tempt you?
LILITH
You already beguile me enough, my Sicilian serpent.
(Leans against him)
ROCKY
Cannoli? Pasticciotti? Sfogliatelle?
LILITH
Can you do anything outside the boot?
ROCKY
Yo, lady, howsabout a cheese danish?
She is unfazed by his comments.
LILITH
I'm going to make zucchini fritters for dinner and whatever else goes with them.
A nice swordfish steak went with them, since he was in Hannaford anyway buying pastry flour. And a decent sauvignon blanc. Some espresso. A few other things whose existence still seemed a miracle.
Lilith ignored his cannoli. He noticed but was helpless to say anything.
LILITH
How did a nice guy like you end up in jail?
ROCKY
The papers called me the ‘Gentleman Bank Robber.’ Typed notes, perfect grammar and punctuation, factual without being threatening. Always a charming smile for the tellers.
LILITH
(Questioning)
I don’t mean to frighten you, and I apologize in advance, but I am armed. Please fill the bag. I don’t want to hurt anyone. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
ROCKY
Like that. The actual instructions were a little more technical. One wants the bag filled with certain things, not others. I was at the Augusta branch of Key Bank. I passed the note and two seconds later I was flat on the floor, a gun in my ear, getting cuffed. The guy behind me in line was an off-duty state trooper.
LILITH
(Snorts out loud)
What did you do?
ROCKY
I shouted, ‘Help, I’m being mugged.’ Then he shouted, ‘I’m a cop!’ And I shouted, “ID, show me some ID.’ Next thing I knew, I was in a six-by-nine making pruno.
LILITH
(Giggles, holding her hand to her mouth.)
And now you're a pastry chef.
ROCKY
Cannoli, pasticciotti, sfogliatelle, millefoligie-
LILITH
And I’m a college professor.
ROCKY
(Deadpan expression on his face)
And I’m a Sicilian.
LILITH
(same expression on hers)
And I’m a WASP.
ROCKY
And I love food.
LILITH
(Not smiling)
And I’m anorexic.
ROCKY
(Same serious tone being used)
And I’m a charming sociopath.
LILITH
Are you?
ROCKY
I don’t think so. Hard to know.
LILITH
(Mock awe)
You sure charmed your way into my panties.
ROCKY
(Mock seriousness)
That would just be a first step for the charming sociopath. He’d be poking around, digging up your social security and credit card numbers, trying to figure out how much you were worth….
LILITH
Are you doing that?
Rocky stand, walks around the table where he kneels and lays his head on her lap.
ROCKY
Charming my way into your panties seems enough.
LILITH
(Her eyes sad and somber)
So this is just a slight and sweet confection. And that’s all.
ROCKY
(Just a serious as her)
Lilith, try one of my confections before you let your analogies ride off in a dozen directions.
Her hand--delicate, graceful, and expressive--reached toward the plate. She did not let her eyes leave his face. She picked up the cannoli. And she did eat.

Week 9 con't

So Scene one is complete with three "acts". That leaves me with a hole to fill called Scene two and three.
Now that Jodie and Will are progressing with their relationship, two things are realized by them both. One, Will loves Jodie and will do anything to be with her. Two, Jodie isn't sure of her love for anything much less about Will. She is unsure if he likes her because she is a dancer or for herself. Will has to prove his love to her by rushing to her side when she gets sick and is admitted to the hospital. There at the hospital, Will and the world find out that Jodie has an eating disorder and her life must change drastically for her to continued health. Jodie is to attend counseling and therapy for her issue. She tries to push Will away because she believes that she isn't good enough for him and that it is for his own good but Will hangs on. Through thick and thin. Time goes on and Jodie starts to get things straight in her head.
Scene three is the day that Jodie is released from the clinic where she has been staying for therapy and counseling and Will is there to help her to her new apartment. Some changes have been made by Jodie and her mom who has now been made aware that Jodie is sick and needs help. The dreams of Jodie's mom go up in smoke but at least she has her daughter and after time she realizes that is better than having a dancer.
Jodie figures out that Will isn't leaving and settles down to a new start of attending a college where she won't be dancing anymore. She wants a normal life doing normal things.

Week 10

Will may have his own issues but after a short time of getting to know Jodie, he falls in love with her and suddenly his problems don't compare to her. He will save her even if it is from herself.

Week 10 Characters

Jodie
Jodie is not a nice girl nor is she a mean girl. She tells it how it is, blunt and truthful, But the truth hurts and not everyone wants to hear it. That aspect has never allowed her a lot of friends. She is a ballet dancer and despite what people say, she didn't become a ballet dancer by having a lot of friends. It's a one people sport and she has to rely on herself a lot. She lives at a school where she studied her dancing and also takes normal classes. Jodie has lived there since she was four years old per her mother's wishes.
Her mother is overbearing and pushes Jodie to dance harder. Ballet is all that Jodie knows as she was never allowed to do anything else when she was growing up. Jodie is a great dancer. All her teachers tell her that she could be accepted into a company. Her relationship with her mother is complex and difficult at best. her mother wants her to be primadonna ballet dancer at school and Jodie is working her butt off to make this happen for her mother. Although Jodie and her mother have a difficult relationship sometimes, Jodie knows how much it means to her mother that Jodie become a ballerina. Jodie has conflicting emotions about dancing, sometimes she loves it as much as her mother wants her to and then other times she just wants to be a normal teenager.
She is 5'7'', thin and graceful as a ballerina should be. Willowy with long arms and legs. Probably maximum 100lbs and weight is a big factor with dancing. She has long brown hair and wide deep set brown eyes and straight even white teeth.
Jodie has conflicting emotions. She wants to be normal and not have to watch what she eats. Over time Jodie has become used to the regiments of ballet and has developed bulimia. She only keeps a small portion of food a day to give her some energy to dance but she never discusses her pain or health to anyone. It's just not done. Jodie wants to hang out and make friends as she doesn't have any who aren't dancers. But is is hard to do both. Be normal and be a teenage ballerina. Jodie wants to make her mother happy and she wants to be happy herself but she can't have it both ways.
As the scene starts Jodie is meeting with some new friends that she met at a club. She had sneaked away for some time to hang out with friends and her mother has no idea. Jodie and her friends are going to a movie and some dinner which is pizza and fries. Jodie doesn't eat for a while but eventually gives in to one slice. The evening winds down to a male friend and Jodie walking back to school eating cotton candy. They leave each other and Jodie immediately knows that now she is back at school and on different ground that she has done bad things. Eating junk food. What is she going to do? She has to get rid of it and does but is Jodie making herself sick and doesn't even know it yet?
Will
Will has always wanted to play football. He used all his school vacations going to football camps and was born and bred to play. His mama told him that his daddy used to play ball in high school. He loves every minute of it.Will was left with his mother when he was only six years old. His father left with no warning to either and neither Will nor his mother make it a point to talk about him much. Will and his mom have a deep bond and a loving relationship. She works two jobs to give him the things he needs and Will is greatly appreciative and doesn't cause his mom any problems. He hopes that one day a football scout will see him play and he will get the scholarship that he deserves. He prays that one day he will be able to repay his mother for all the things she has sacrificed for him. he loves his mother and would be lost without her. Will has a good football body with a height of 6'3'', big boned body and wide shoulders. A hefty frame and wide shoulders, brown hair and brown eyes. 320 lbs. Will has a part time job and is an active member in his life. he doesn't let his life pass him by but rather spends every minute trying to repay his mother for the things she has given him. He doesn't go out and party all night but studies and devotes his time to practicing football because he knows that is the only thing going to get him into college.Lately Will has felt the pressure come down on him, Everything is riding on how well he plays football. Not only playing football but with the massive amounts of schoolwork that is laid on a junior, he doesn't have a lot of downtime. Will is starting to get stressed and that could lead to carelessness. He feels he might need something to help him play his best and win that scholarship. So the scene starts with Will at football practice. He and some other players are in the locker room and one of the guys is talking about steroids. He said he doesn't take them but if any of the guys want some he knows where to find them. Will stands conflicted. he could be offered a chance to set everything on a straight path if he takes the drugs but he knows his mama would kill him if she ever found out. Not to mention if the scouts found out he would be eliminated from their options. So what is he to do, take the drugs and win the scholarship at risk of losing everything or go drug free and maybe not have the power or impression to leave behind with the scouts.
