Week 9

First Act :
Characters : Will and Jodie, Veronica and Matt
Scene: A bowling alley where they all meet up. Will and Matt are friends and Jodie and Veronica know each other from dance school. Matt and Veronica are dating so there is chemistry but we focus on the characters of Jodie and Will. Will is attracted to Jodie but he doesn’t know that she has an eating disorder. Jodie spends most of her time away from people her own age and very rarely has the time to do anything age orientated like having fun at a bowling alley. She is excited to meet Will but we aren’t sure if that is because she doesn’t get out much or if the feeling is genuine. They meet and go into the alley where they all start a game of ten pin.

Second Act :
Characters: Will and Jodie, Matt and Veronica
Scene: Everyone is getting to know each other. The foursome is bowling and having a good time. The boys take the initiative and order some fun food including pizza and soda, French fries and the usual junk. Jodie is freaking out quietly but she isn’t quite successful in hiding her dislike and Will gets nervous. Maybe she doesn’t like him or maybe she isn’t having a good time? Who knows?

Flash back: Jodie is eating a cupcake. A small innocent cupcake and she is ten years old. Her mother appears and she sees some left over frosting on Jodie’s face. The mother is mad at Jodie and tells her that she needs to watch her figure. How is Jodie going to be a dancer if she is heavy? Her partner will never be able to lift her. Fade out.

Third Act:
Characters: Will and Jodie
Scene: Two weeks later.
Jodie and Will are on an outing to the harbor. They eat a donut and some minutes later Jodie disappears into the bathroom. Will is worried that something is wrong so he sends Matt’s girlfriend in to check on Jodie. She comes back and says that Jodie isn’t feeling well. Will worries and when Jodie comes back he takes her back to school so she can rest. Will has started to develop feelings for Jodie and the same for her. Can Will help Jodie over come her issue and more on to a normal life?

What you have here is a fine outline for act 1--what you're calling separate acts are just scenes within the act.

"Will has started to develop feelings for Jodie and the same for her. Can Will help Jodie over come her issue and more on to a normal life?"

This is what the rest of the script is about! No one wants to leave the theatre with question marks! So, figure out the answers and how to dramatize them, what the problems and conflicts are, the moments of triumph and the moments of defeat--and keep outlining.
